Her size is something she is deeply dissatisfied with as she believes sleep can replenish all her energy and help her grow taller. In order to live according to this principle and to have as much time as possible to sleep, she refined her ninjutsu to perfection.
Though she is particularly well known for her apparent laziness, the Shuumatsun members know that she remains true to her cause as she would never go against her principles and would not slack off on matters of the utmost importance. Ayaka believes that Sayu's laziness is due to her sensei walking abruptly when she looked up at them, feeling lost and confused as she walked.

Of course, from Sayu's point of view, this so-called "laziness" is just better timing that allows her to focus on things...like sleeping and growing up. She doesn't like having her head petted because she thinks it stunts her growth. She tolerates headbanging from both the Traveler and Yae Miko, although the latter is the Guuji for fear of retribution.
A particularly skilled ninja, Sayu usually takes care of reconnaissance and other miscellaneous tasks. While trained in combat, the arts she learned were primarily for stealth and evasion. She values the Traveler's company and is willing to work harder for it. While disguised as Mujina, who she finds extremely adorable, Sayu gets angry when people call her Tanuki, even going so far as to attack her.
