He is 16 years old and grew up as "Pogue" on the bad side of Outer Banks, also known as "The Cut". In the intro, John B explains that he grew up as an only child and was raised by his father. His mother was released to Colorado at the age of 3. 9 months before the pilot, John B's father was missing at sea and is considered dead, but his body was never found. However, John B remains convinced that his father is still alive. He had lived with his uncle after his father's disappearance, but his uncle went a few months ahead of the pilot to build houses in Mississippi.
