Luke Skywalker was a legendary Jedi Master who fought in the Galactic War during the reign of the Galactic Empire. Along with his companions Princess Leia Organa and General Han Solo, Skywalker served on the side of the Alliance for the Restoration of the Republic, an organization dedicated to the fall of the Galactic Empire and the restoration of democracy. After the war, Skywalker became a living legend and was considered one of the greatest Jedi in galactic history.
Luke Skywalker, son of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and Senator Padmé Amidala, had a twin sister named Leia. As a result of Amidala's death and Anakin's fall to the dark side, the Skywalker children were separated and hidden, with Leia being adopted by the Alderaan royal family while Luke was raised by his relatives on Tatooine. Longing for a life of adventure and purpose, Skywalker joined the Rebellion and began learning the ways of power under the guidance of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, whose first apprentice was Luke's own father.

When he was young, Skywalker was curious and impatient He looked to the future regardless of his current surroundings. Like his father, he was impulsive, reckless and often had little regard for his personal safety. Sometime after the Battle of Yavin, he informed Nakari Kelen that he would regret his behavior by then and admitted that he was complaining "about everything" because he wanted to flee Tatooine. He also recognized his low talent for lying, a trait many people could infer. Despite these qualities, Skywalker still had a happy childhood.
However, as his power skills developed, and in particular the loss of a hand to Darth Vader, Skywalker became more patient and experienced and was often viewed as wise beyond his years. However, he still held his idealistic point of view, was ready to think the best of anyone, and believed that Vader was redeemable. He was also unable to ignore those in need, sometimes to the point of jeopardizing missions to save the lives of others, as his father did during the Clone Wars. Even as a child, he had a strong sense of morality and a need to help others despite likely danger. Throughout the series, Skywalker has consistently demonstrated his instinct to protect those who are important to him and who he loves, and who is in love with his father.
