Halloween Costume Guide
The Supreme doesn’t wear a costume โ she wears a verdict.
Fiona Goode is the Supreme Witch of the Salem descendants’ coven โ the most powerful witch alive โ who spends most of AHS: Coven trying to stay that way by any means available, according to the AHS Fandom wiki. The silhouette is the costume: structured black separates, heels, gloves. Without the posture to match, it reads as an elegant black outfit rather than the Supreme. Recognition is solid among AHS fans; outside that audience, you are a glamorous witch in black, which is still a good costume.

The blouse should be tucked into the skirt with purpose โ if it looks accidental, the whole costume shifts toward “Halloween party guest in black” rather than “woman who runs everything.” The sunglasses go on before you walk in, not after. At a party where everyone is in elaborate costumes, Fiona’s look is quietly extreme: nothing sparkles, nothing drapes, nothing has a visible seam that shouldn’t. If the skirt bunches or the blouse untucks, the costume starts reading as generic fast.
In the show, Fiona walks into a room and the room adjusts to her. There is a scene where two detectives come to interrogate students at the academy and she appears, makes them hand over their evidence, and sends them away โ all without raising her voice or changing expression. That flatness is the whole character. She is not performing power. She just has it.
Heels and a Full Night
Nubuck heels on a party floor for four hours will leave your feet in a state Fiona would find undignified. Bring a flat pair to switch into after midnight, or pick a heel height you can actually sustain. The character is confident, not limping.
The Umbrella Is a Prop, Not a Stick
Carry it closed, tip down, like a cane โ not hooked over your arm or dangling from a wrist strap. If someone asks who you are, you have two options: point it at them slowly and say “I’m Fiona Goode, I’m in charge everywhere,” or just look at them until they figure it out. Both are correct.
Couples Costume
Strong pairing for AHS fans because the mother-daughter dynamic is the emotional spine of the season. Cordelia’s look is warmer and more academic โ cardigans, natural tones โ which makes the visual contrast with Fiona’s all-black severity genuinely work. Anyone who watched Coven will get it immediately.
Duo Costume
Strong duo with the best costume contrast in the Coven cast. Myrtle’s look โ eccentric, colourful, theatrical โ is the visual opposite of Fiona’s controlled severity. The rivalry between them drives half the season. Two people who clearly cannot stand each other is a good foundation for a group costume.
AHS: Coven Witch Council
Might work, but the group needs at least three people in clear character-specific looks or it reads as a group of people in Halloween outfits. Madison’s red carpet glam and Misty’s bohemian layers are distinct enough to help, but Cordelia and Misty in particular require commitment to costume detail. This is an excellent group for a dedicated AHS watch-party crowd and a harder sell anywhere else.
Iconic Pop Culture Witches
Strong group because every character here has distinct visual recognition across different audiences โ no one in the group goes unnoticed. Fiona’s controlled severity sits well against Winifred’s theatrical excess and Glinda’s pink sparkle. The range of franchises means almost everyone at the event will recognize at least two or three of you.

View GuideThis costume is built from separates, not a single set. Most people will need at least three of these items. The good news is that everything here can be worn again after Halloween.
Fiona’s defining trait is that she never seems to need anyone’s approval. Playing her well means resisting the urge to explain who you are unprompted.
You need a vintage square neck blouse, midi pencil skirt, black heels, lambskin gloves, and oversized butterfly sunglasses โ those five are the essential pieces that build the Fiona Goode silhouette. The blouse and skirt together are the non-negotiables; without both, the costume reads as a generic black outfit rather than the Supreme. Add the umbrella as a prop and it gives you something to do with your hands all night.
The first one is the most useful at a party. Say it flatly, without any performance, in response to someone asking if you need anything.
It is a strong choice within AHS fan circles, and the all-black elegant silhouette reads well even to people who don’t know the character. That said, Coven aired in 2013 so recognition outside the AHS fanbase has thinned โ most people will see a glamorous witch in black, not specifically Fiona Goode.
Jessica Lange plays Fiona Goode. Her performance won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie and earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film.
Fiona mastered all seven of the Seven Wonders, the standard that defines a Supreme witch in the show. Her most-used powers are telekinesis, mind control, and the ability to drain the life force from other people. She can also manipulate memory, use pyrokinesis, and perform descensum, according to the Wikipedia overview of AHS: Coven.
No, but it is the best prop option for this costume. It fits the character’s theatrical presence, gives you something to lean on or gesture with at a party, and doubles as something useful if you are going to an outdoor event.
Cordelia Foxx is Fiona’s daughter and eventually becomes the next Supreme. Their relationship throughout Coven is the emotional core of the season โ Fiona left Cordelia at Miss Robichaux’s Academy when she was young, and their reconciliation at the end of the season is one of the few moments where Fiona drops the performance entirely.
