Halloween Costume Guide
Harvard or nothing. She has a plan, a spreadsheet, and no time for you unless you are useful.
Honor Rose spends most of the film running a calculated scheme to manipulate her classmates out of Harvard consideration so she can claim the last recommendation spot for herself. She is the type of person who treats every social interaction as a variable in an equation. Angourie Rice plays her in the 2022 Paramount+ film Honor Society, directed by Oran Zegman, and the performance is what makes Honor interesting rather than just unpleasant (Wikipedia). The film has a small but devoted audience; recognition at a general Halloween party will be limited.

The layered shirt-and-sweater combination is what people notice first. If that layer is off, the rest of the costume reads as a generic school outfit rather than a specific character. The collar needs to show, the sweater needs to sit cleanly over it, and neither should look rumpled. Honor is not a person who goes to school looking like she just woke up. If the argyle sweater is creased and the shirt is half-untucked, you are wearing the clothes but not the character.
In one scene Honor sits across from Michael and tells him, with complete composure, that she has been using him. She is not cruel about it. She is just efficient. That is the whole character in one exchange, and it is worth having in mind when someone asks who you are at the party. The glasses help too. They are the detail that pushes the look from “dressed up” to “I have a plan and you are a variable in it.”
Clear-lens glasses make a difference
Honor wears glasses consistently throughout the film, and they do a lot of work in tightening the character read. Fashion frames with clear lenses cost very little and are easy to find. If you order them, make sure the frame shape is simple and academic-looking. Large fashion frames or anything too trendy pull the look away from the character. Small to mid-sized rectangular or oval frames are right.
Pick one skirt and commit to it
Three skirt options are listed because Honor’s wardrobe in the film is not uniform. But wearing the wrong stocking colour with the wrong skirt at the party is the kind of detail that makes the costume look unfinished. Decide before you leave the house: bodycon mini with dark boot stockings, or tartan skirt with red stockings. Mixing at random makes both choices worse.
Group Idea: Harvard Hopefuls
Strong group concept for anyone going with a crowd that watched the film together. All four are competing for the same Harvard recommendation, which is the entire premise of the story. The dynamic between them is the point. This does not work at a general Halloween party where nobody has seen Honor Society, but at a themed event or with a friend group who knows the film it is the most coherent group the show offers.
Group Idea: High School Schemers
Excellent group for a mixed crowd because three of the four characters are widely recognised without any explanation. Cher and Ferris are known across generations. Devi has strong current recognition from Never Have I Ever. Honor is the niche one, and she will be the one people ask about. The contrast between four very different types of high school self-interest actually makes the group concept more interesting than a single-franchise lineup.
Group Idea: The Angourie Rice Roster
Might work, but only at an event where the meta-concept lands. This group is built around the same actress playing four different characters, which is the kind of thing that works at a film convention or with a group of people who specifically appreciate that layer. Betty Brant has MCU recognition. Cady Heron from the 2024 Mean Girls is recent enough to be familiar. Holly March from The Nice Guys is a niche pick. At a general party, this reads as four unrelated characters and requires constant explanation.
Group Idea: Calculated Academics
Might work, but this is a deeply niche group. The concept is characters who are unusually strategic about the people around them, which is a real thread connecting all four. Honor and Michael are from the same film. Lexi and Love are from different shows entirely. The shared trait is the idea, not the franchise. At a convention this lands with the right crowd. At a general party, only Euphoria fans will place Lexi, and even fewer will know Love Quinn on sight.
This is one of the easier costume builds on the site. There are no props to fabricate, no unusual materials, and nothing that requires advance crafting. The challenge is making it look intentional rather than accidental, since “girl in a sweater and skirt” needs the right details to read as a specific character.
Honor does not waste words or energy on people who cannot help her. She is polite, engaged, and completely transactional. That is the energy to bring.
Start with the white poplin shirt and layer an argyle sweater over it with the collar showing. Pair with a bodycon mini skirt or vintage tartan skirt, pull on long boot stockings, and add mid-heel oxfords. A dirty blonde wig and clear-lens glasses finish the prep-school overachiever look.
Recognition is limited to people who saw the film on Paramount+ in 2022. The costume reads as a general prep-school student to anyone who does not know the film, and Angourie Rice’s broader profile from Spider-Man and the 2024 Mean Girls gives you a second name to drop if needed. At a general party, most people will not place Honor Rose specifically.
Honor is not a one-liner character. Her voice is most present in the internal monologue that frames the film, where she explains her plan to the audience with complete clarity and no apology. The line that captures her best is the simple logic she returns to throughout: anything that does not move her closer to Harvard simply does not register as worth her attention.
Honor Rose is played by Angourie Rice, an Australian actress also known as Betty Brant in the MCU Spider-Man films and as Cady Heron in the 2024 Mean Girls musical adaptation. Honor Society was released on Paramount+ in 2022 and directed by Oran Zegman.
They help. Honor wears glasses throughout the film and they push the look from “girl in a sweater” to “person with a plan.” Clear-lens fashion frames are cheap and easy to find. Skip them and the costume still works, but you lose the detail that makes it recognisable to anyone who knows the film.
Yes. The white shirt, argyle sweater, and a skirt are the three items the costume cannot work without. Everything else adds detail. The wig is optional if your hair already fits. The MacBook only makes sense if the venue gives you somewhere to put it down.
