Because of his courage, enthusiasm, and defiance, Lestat's elders affectionately refer to him as "The Brat Prince," a title he loves dearly. He is very confident and interested in fashion and will pause in the middle of the narration to remind the reader what he is wearing. He enjoys performing in the rock band The Vampire Lestat, which he formed with a group of people in the 1980s, both as a vampire and as a mortal on stage in Paris, France. Lestat is also excited about music; sings and plays the piano and violin. Although illiterate as a mortal man, he learns to read as a vampire and loves literature and philosophy. He becomes a recluse at some point in his life and spends every night at home and reading.

As a vampire, Lestat's abilities include telepathy, mind reading, superhuman physiques, and rapid healing. After drawing blood from several ancient vampires, including Magnus, Marius de Romanus, and Akasha, Lestat's power increases dramatically, allowing him to fly through the air, perform telekinetic and pyrokinetic abilities, and survive exposure to the sun. After Lestat ate Mekare's brain, he was infused with Amel's spirit and became the Host of the Sacred Core, effectively making himself the most powerful vampire on the planet. Despite being portrayed as an anti-hero in Interview with the Vampire, he is quick to defend his own behavior. In The Vampire Lestat, he spends most of the book telling people that he is not the monster that previous narrators had brought him to. For most of the book, he's instead portrayed as a fun-loving heroine who even manages to charge against the vampire queen, Akasha.
