Halloween Costume Guide
Sadie survives an O’Driscoll raid that kills her husband, hides under the floorboards for days, then spends the rest of the game turning that into a reason to become one of the deadliest gunfighters in the gang. The star-shaped belt buckle is a small, specific detail, but it’s the one piece here that’s actually confirmed from her outfit rather than generic cowgirl gear. Red Dead Redemption 2 came out in 2018, and Rockstar gave Sadie her own musical theme, “Mrs. Sadie Adler, Widow,” one of only a few characters in the game with a dedicated leitmotif (Fandom), so she’s not a background character people forget.

The hat is the first thing people register, and if it’s too clean or sits too high on the head, the whole look drifts toward costume-party cowgirl instead of someone who’s been riding and fighting for months. The belt buckle is a small detail, but it’s the one piece that separates this from a generic western outfit, so it’s worth getting even though nobody will clock it from across the room. At a dark party the shirt and scarf combination is what reads fast, so if the hat comes off and the gun belt isn’t visible, you’re left with someone in a plain cream shirt and brown pants.
Sadie tells Arthur that he’s the only one of the gang she trusts, flat and without hesitation, after years of watching everyone else lie, steal, or fall apart. It’s not a compliment delivered warmly. It’s closer to a fact she’s stating because someone needs to know it.
Tighten the holster before you leave
A holster that sits loose on the belt will slide around all night, especially if you’re moving a lot. Thread the belt through the holster loop tight before you leave, and check it again after the first hour, since cheap holsters stretch faster than you’d expect.
Hold the rifle like a tool, not a pose
Carry the rifle low and loose, not slung across your back like you’re posing for a poster. Sadie handles guns like tools, not accessories, so the less careful you look holding it, the more accurate the costume.
Couples Idea
Excellent duo, filed here as a couple even though their relationship in the game is friendship, not romance. Arthur becomes the one person Sadie trusts completely, and the visual pairing, her cream shirt and hat against his coat and gear, reads clearly to anyone who’s played the game. Arthur’s page covers his build if you want the full list.
Duo Idea
Strong duo for the epilogue storyline specifically, since Sadie becomes John’s closest ally after Arthur dies, but it’s a weaker visual pairing than Sadie and Arthur since both characters wear fairly similar western basics. It works better if you know the story than if you’re going purely on look.
Group Idea: Red Dead Redemption Full Gang Squad
Excellent group. This is the actual core cast of the game, and Arthur and Dutch both have full guides here already. John Marston’s page is linked elsewhere on this post, so he shows up here as a name only. Micah Bell and Charles Smith don’t have pages yet, so those two builds are on you.
Group Idea: Iconic Cowboy & Western Outlaw Characters
Might work, but Sadie is the only video game character in a lineup of film and comic outlaws, so the group only holds together as western archetypes, not anything the characters share. It’s a strong visual theme, dusters, hats, and guns across the board, but you’re relying on the crowd knowing four separate properties instead of one.
Most of this is closet or thrift material. The buckle is the one detail worth buying specifically.
Sadie doesn’t do small talk, and she doesn’t back down from anything either.
Wear the cream shirt and dark brown pants as the base, add the scarf, belt with the star buckle, and cowboy hat. Finish with the holster and boots, and carry a prop revolver or rifle if you want something to hold.
Yes. Red Dead Redemption 2 came out in 2018 and still sells consistently years later, and Sadie is one of the game’s most talked-about characters, not a background one. Anyone who’s played the game will recognize the hat, the buckle, and the guns without needing an explanation.
Three lines cover her well: “Nobody’s taking nothing from me ever again,” which sums up her whole arc after her husband’s death, “You’re the only one of these fools that I trust,” said flatly to Arthur Morgan, and “Come on out, Micah! At least die like a man!” shouted during the final confrontation with the gang’s real villain.
Any western-style buckle will pass at a glance. The star shape is a specific, confirmed detail from her outfit, so it’s worth getting right if you want someone who’s played the game to notice, but it’s not going to make or break the costume for anyone else.
Either works on its own. Both together is more accurate to how she’s often shown in the game, but it also means carrying two prop weapons around a party, which is more hassle than most people want.
This is her chapters five and six look, after she’s already left the prairie dresses behind but before she becomes a full-time bounty hunter in the epilogue. If you want the later duster and bandolier look instead, this item list won’t get you there.
Yes. It’s a shirt, pants, and a hat, with no violence or anything to explain away. The only thing to reconsider is the prop guns if the event has strict rules about weapon-shaped props.
