Quick Answer: The Ghost cosplay covers two full builds.
  • MW2 Look (12 pieces): camo suit, Ghost skull mask, brown buff, SAS patch, headset, camo vest, belt, drop leg holster, scarf, gloves, airsoft set, white marker
  • Urban Warfare Look (18 pieces): black jacket, jeans, teeth-lines mask, tactical vest with full MOLLE loadout, climbing harness, EARMOR headset, boots, skeleton gloves

Simon “Ghost” Riley is one of the most iconic characters in the Call of Duty franchise. A British special forces operative in Task Force 141, he is defined by his skull balaclava, dry operational composure, and a backstory that makes his silence more expressive than most characters’ speeches. He appears as a major character in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2009), is killed at the end of that game, and is reintroduced in the 2022 reboot series where he serves as one of the primary protagonists. His skull mask is the most cosplayed single item in the entire Call of Duty franchise. Full character background is available on the Ghost Call of Duty Wiki page.

How to Style the Ghost Cosplay

Both Ghost builds layer from base clothing outward. For the MW2 Look, start with the camo suit set, then the tactical belt at the waist, then the drop leg holster strapped to the right thigh at mid-thigh. Wrap the beige scarf around the neck before putting on the camo vest. Attach the SAS patch to the correct vest shoulder, then clip the airsoft rifle to the vest or carry it in hand. Put on the camo gloves and the tactical headset. The COD Ghost mask goes on last over the brown buff. Adjust the buff so it covers the neck below the mask line.

For the Urban Warfare Look, boots first. Then jeans and the hooded black tactical jacket. Attach the quick release belt at the waist. Put on the tactical airsoft vest and attach all MOLLE pouches: mag pouch, shotgun strip, radio pouch with dummy PRC152, IFAK pouch, double pistol mag pouch, smoke grenade pouch, and SAS patch on the shoulder. Fit the climbing harness over the vest. EARMOR headset on, skeleton gloves on, Ghost teeth lines mask on last. The mask is the final step in both builds and the moment the cosplay becomes Ghost.

Ghost’s in-character register is calm, flat, and watchful. He never looks uncertain. He never explains himself. He moves through every space like he already has a route out. At a convention, the skull mask does most of the performance work. Stay still, scan the room, respond to questions in short sentences, and let the costume carry the character.

The Mask Is the Cosplay

Both Ghost builds begin and end with the skull mask. The COD MW2 Ghost mask for the camo look and the Ghost teeth lines mask for the Urban Warfare look are the single items that transform tactical gear into a Ghost cosplay. Without the mask, the build reads as a generic military operator. With it, every CoD player in the room knows exactly who you are. Put the mask on last in both builds and leave it on for as long as the event allows.

The White Fabric Marker: When and How to Use It

The white fabric marker in the MW2 Look is used to add skull detail lines to the brown buff above the mask line. These details, visible on Ghost’s forehead and around the eye area in the game, extend the skull mask aesthetic upward and make the face coverage look seamless rather than obviously layered. Apply the lines with the buff worn but not yet on the face, using in-game reference screenshots as the guide. Allow the ink to dry fully before wearing. The effect is subtle but significantly increases cosplay accuracy at close inspection range.

MOLLE Attachment for the Urban Warfare Build

The Urban Warfare Look has six MOLLE-attached pouches on the tactical vest, and attaching them correctly is the most time-consuming part of the build. Do all MOLLE attachment the day before the event, not the morning of. Threading pouch straps through webbing rows correctly takes patience and requires each row of webbing to be counted carefully before threading. Once attached correctly, all pouches hold firmly under full-day event wear. The climbing harness goes on last over the vest after all pouches are mounted and the SAS patch is applied.

The Climbing Harness: Fit and Comfort

The climbing harness is the Urban Warfare Look’s most distinctive and most conversation-starting detail. It sits over the tactical vest and should be fitted to sit level at the waist with the leg loops adjusted for comfortable wear. A correctly fitted climbing harness is not uncomfortable for extended convention wear, but a poorly fitted one that pulls at the legs or waist will become a problem quickly. Fit and adjust the harness during the full dress rehearsal the day before the event, not on the day itself, and check that the leg loop buckles do not dig into the thighs when walking.

Ghost Group Cosplay Ideas

Task Force 141 Core

Ghost, Soap MacTavish and Captain Price

The definitive Task Force 141 group and one of the most recognisable ensemble cosplays in gaming. Ghost’s skull mask alongside Soap’s mohawk and tactical vest and Captain Price’s beret and moustache creates three completely distinct silhouettes that read from across any convention floor. Every Call of Duty player in any room will identify all three without prompting. The visual contrast between the skull mask, the mohawk, and the beret is one of the strongest three-character group aesthetics in the franchise.

Ghost Soap MacTavish Captain Price

Masked Operators

Ghost, König and Velikan

Three of Call of Duty’s most visually imposing operators, each defined by a face covering that deliberately obscures their identity. Ghost’s skull balaclava, König’s full hooded veil, and Velikan’s shark jaw mask and NVG helmet create a group defined by anonymity, heavy kit, and immediate visual impact. The contrast across three different concealment aesthetics makes this one of the most striking CoD group cosplay concepts available, with strong recognition across multiple game titles.

MW2 Full Roster

Ghost, Captain Price, Soap, Farah Karim and Alejandro Vargas

A full Modern Warfare 2 (2022) campaign roster in five cosplays. Ghost’s skull mask alongside Price’s beret, Soap’s operator aesthetic, Farah Karim’s Urzikstani commander look, and an Alejandro Vargas Mexican military uniform creates a group that covers every major faction and character in the MW2 campaign. Five completely different visual identities sharing a single game universe, covering the full breadth of the MW2 character roster for any convention group appearance.

CoD Across the Franchise

Ghost, Keegan P. Russ, König and Alex Keller

Four operators from across the full Call of Duty franchise in a single group. Ghost’s MW2 skull mask, Keegan’s dark camo and skull balaclava from Ghosts, König’s distinctive full veil from MW2 multiplayer, and Alex Keller’s civilian operator look from the original Modern Warfare reboot creates a group that spans the franchise’s history and demonstrates the visual breadth of CoD’s operator design. Ghost and Keegan sharing the skull aesthetic creates a strong visual anchor while König and Alex provide contrast.

Ghost Cosplay DIY Tips

MW2 Look: Build Strategy

The MW2 Look is the more accessible of the two Ghost cosplay builds. The Ghost mask and the camo suit are the two essential purchases that cannot be substituted. The vest, belt, and drop leg holster are common tactical gear items that may already be owned from other cosplay or outdoor gear. The brown buff, white fabric marker, beige scarf, and UK SAS patch are all inexpensive additions that significantly increase accuracy. The airsoft rifle and pistol set are optional, check venue rules before purchasing. A minimum recognisable MW2 Ghost cosplay is three items: camo suit, Ghost mask, and camo vest.

  • Ghost mask = first priority, the recognition trigger that cannot be substituted
  • Tactical camo suit = essential base layer, quality matters for the overall silhouette
  • Brown buff plus white marker = inexpensive, high-accuracy detail for the mask area
  • UK SAS patch = low cost, high character-specificity detail on the vest
  • Airsoft set = optional, check venue rules before purchasing

Urban Warfare Look: Build Strategy

The Urban Warfare Look is the more involved build at eighteen pieces, but the base layer of jeans and black tactical jacket is either already owned or inexpensive to source. The tactical vest and MOLLE pouches form the most significant investment. All six MOLLE pouches should be attached to the vest the day before the event: threading pouch straps through webbing rows takes 30 to 60 minutes per pouch and should not be rushed under event-day time pressure. The climbing harness is the most distinctive and most conversation-starting single item in the Urban Warfare build. A minimum recognisable Urban Warfare Ghost cosplay is four items: black tactical jacket, jeans, Ghost teeth lines mask, and tactical vest.

  • Ghost teeth lines mask = essential, the recognition trigger for this specific skin
  • Black tactical jacket and jeans = check existing wardrobe first
  • Tactical vest with MOLLE pouches = primary investment, attach day before
  • Climbing harness = the most character-specific single item in the Urban Warfare build
  • EARMOR M32 headset = the higher-spec headset for accuracy in this specific build

Ghost Cosplay: Frequently Asked Questions

The Ghost cosplay comes in two builds. The MW2 Look is twelve pieces: tactical camo suit, Ghost skull mask, brown buff, camo gloves, white fabric marker, SAS patch, headset, airsoft set, tactical belt, camo vest, drop leg holster, and beige scarf. The Urban Warfare Look is eighteen pieces built around a black tactical jacket, jeans, Ghost teeth lines mask, and a fully MOLLE-loaded tactical vest with climbing harness. The Ghost mask is the essential item in both builds.

In the MW2 Look, Ghost wears a tactical camouflage suit with a camo vest carrying a UK SAS patch, tactical belt, drop leg holster, tactical headset, beige scarf layered under the skull mask, camo gloves, and the distinctive skull balaclava. His left arm carries a notable tattoo. In the Urban Warfare Look he transitions to relaxed jeans and a hooded black tactical jacket with a fully loaded tactical vest, climbing harness, EARMOR headset, and the Ghost teeth lines variant of the skull mask.

Ghost’s most associated line is his sardonic operational briefing about going dark: no radio, no support, no rescue. His exchanges with Soap and Price in the 2022 MW2 are defined by dry English understatement. His most emotionally resonant moment is the quiet scene at Soap’s grave in the campaign, which defined his character for a generation of CoD players. For cosplay in-character performance: speak in flat, economical sentences, never look surprised, and make it clear you have already assessed every exit before anyone else noticed there was a room.

The MW2 Look with the camo suit and skull mask is the more broadly recognisable choice for general events, Halloween appearances, and group builds. It is the look most associated with the character across the franchise. The Urban Warfare Look with the black jacket, jeans, and full MOLLE vest is the more accurate build for the specific in-game skin and performs better at competitive cosplay contexts where loadout completeness is assessed.

Yes. The Ghost Halloween costume is one of the most searched CoD cosplay builds and reads as a compelling character even to people who have never played the game. The skull mask is immediately recognisable and works as a Halloween costume independently of the game context. The MW2 Look is the more practical Halloween build at twelve pieces. The Ghost cod cosplay in either variant is among the most effective game character Halloween builds available in 2026.

Ghost’s real name is Simon Riley. He is a British special forces operative in Task Force 141, serving under Captain Price. His backstory includes a traumatic childhood, betrayal by trusted figures, and near-death experiences that shaped his operational detachment. He appears in CoD Modern Warfare 2 (2009), is killed at the end of that game, and is reintroduced as a primary protagonist in the 2022 reboot series alongside Soap MacTavish.

Ghost has a notable tattoo on his left arm visible in the 2022 MW2 reboot. For cosplay it can be recreated using temporary tattoo transfer paper printed from in-game reference screenshots, or applied with body-safe face paint and a fine brush. The tattoo is most visible in the Urban Warfare Look when jacket sleeves are rolled. It is an optional accuracy detail rather than a recognition-critical element, but it significantly rewards close-inspection scrutiny at competitive cosplay events.

Yes. A minimum recognisable Ghost cosplay is three items: dark tactical or camo clothing as a base, the Ghost skull mask, and a tactical vest. The mask is the non-negotiable purchase. The MW2 Look can be assembled at minimum recognisable level for under $60 using budget substitutions for the camo suit and vest. The ghost cod cosplay mask itself is the single item that makes the build immediately legible to every CoD player in any room.
