Halloween Costume Guide
The Egg Bois follow Sir Pentious around, take his orders without question, and occasionally leak critical intelligence to him by accident because keeping secrets is not something they are capable of. The egg costume shell is the entire build, and the markers are what make it a specific character rather than an Easter prop with ambitions. Hazbin Hotel Season 1 premiered on Amazon Prime Video in January 2024 (Wikipedia), and the show’s fanbase will place this costume. Everyone else will ask.

The crack needs to look jagged and intentional, not smooth, or people read it as a mark on a prop rather than a face on a character. The yellow eyes inside the crack are the second read that fans will clock, and skipping them means the shell is just damaged rather than characterful. Anything not-black sticking out below the shell, a tan boot, a grey sleeve at the cuffs, breaks the limb effect and makes the whole thing read as a craft project that escaped the house by accident.
Frank, the only surviving original Egg Boi, was accidentally placed in an elevator during a mission and ended up in a room full of Hell’s Overlords. He then spied on one of them, was told by Alastor to keep what he heard between them, went home, and immediately told Sir Pentious everything at bedtime. Pentious did not believe him. The Egg Bois had previously told him that bank accounts are a scam created by the shadow government with the same energy (Hazbin Hotel Wiki). The information Frank leaked was true and turned out to matter. This is the complete Egg Boi experience.
Draw the crack while the shell is flat
Drawing on a flat surface gives you control that drawing on yourself while wearing an egg costume does not. Lay the shell down, sketch the crack lightly in pencil first, then go over it with the marker. The crack should run vertically through the center of the face area, narrowing and widening unevenly. A crack that is too symmetrical looks drawn on purpose rather than broken. Which is exactly what it is, but the goal is for it not to look that way.
Secure the hat before you leave the house
The hat sits on an oval egg shell, which is not designed to hold anything. Two bobby pins or a strip of double-sided tape will keep it in place for most of the night. A hat that slides off every twenty minutes will end up in your bag by 9pm, and then you are just a person in an egg costume with no hat and a story to tell about it.
Couples Idea
Might work, but the pairing is conceptual rather than narrative. Niffty and the Egg Bois are both small, chaotic, and loyal to characters who somewhat underestimate them, but they do not share meaningful screen time. At a Hazbin Hotel fan event this reads as a fun pair. At a general party it is two separate costumes standing next to each other.
Duo Idea
Excellent pairing and the only one in this list with a direct narrative reason to exist. The Egg Bois were co-created by Sir Pentious and are loyal to him specifically, following him through turf wars, an invasion of Hell, and his eventual redemption arc. Visually the contrast works: Sir Pentious is elaborate and tall; the Egg Bois are small oval eggs in tiny suits. Anyone who has seen the show gets it immediately.
Group Idea: Hazbin Hotel Hell Ensemble
Strong group for anyone at the party who watches animated shows on Prime Video. The characters have distinct enough looks that the group reads as a deliberate set, and the Egg Bois function as the chaotic footnote the rest of the cast tolerates. Outside a Hazbin Hotel crowd, expect a lot of polite nodding from people who do not know what they are looking at.
Group Idea: Comedic Demonic Minions
Might work, but the visual range here is enormous. Minions are yellow pill-shapes, Oogie Boogie is a burlap sack, Dr. Nefario and Vector are humans in jumpsuits, and the Egg Bois are sentient oval eggs in tiny top hats. The theme of comedic minion energy is real. No one at a party will read it as intentional without an explanation. If your group enjoys explaining the theme to strangers, this is genuinely fun. If not, it is just a lot of very different costumes in one photo.
The hard part of this build is not buying things. It is drawing things. The egg costume is cheap and easy to find. Making it look like a specific character from a specific show takes prep time, a reference image, and markers that work on fabric rather than washing out after an hour.
The Egg Bois have one defining trait: they say things with complete conviction that range from reasonable to completely unhinged, and they cannot tell the difference between the two. This is a solid framework for the night.
Pull on the black shirt and pants, then put the egg costume shell over top. Draw a jagged crack, yellow eyes, and a mouth on the shell using fabric markers. Add a pink stripe to the top hat, place it on the shell, and finish with black gloves and boots. The markers do more work than any other item in this build.
Yes, within the right crowd. Hazbin Hotel has a very active fanbase and Season 1 arrived on Prime Video in January 2024, which keeps it current. Outside that fanbase, expect people to ask what you are rather than recognize you, which is fine if you enjoy explaining it.
They are not known for memorable one-liners as much as for saying things with total conviction. One told the room that “bank accounts are a scam created by the shadow government,” which Sir Pentious later cited as a typical example of things they say. Frank, the sole survivor of the original group, described nearly dying during the extermination as having “nearly scrambled himself.” The angelic Egg Bois created in Heaven limit their vocabulary entirely to “Eggy,” which annoys Sir Pentious considerably.
They are a group of sentient egg demons who served as Sir Pentious’ loyal minions, debuting in the Hazbin Hotel pilot. They were co-created by Sir Pentious and a scientist named Baxter. Almost all of them were destroyed by Exorcists in the Season 1 finale, with Frank being the only original Egg Boi to survive.
Frank is the only named Egg Boi and the sole survivor of the original group. He has a crack over his left eye like a scar and wears a hat with a single eye on the front. He is also the one who accidentally told Sir Pentious classified information he was told not to share, watched Pentious dismiss it as nonsense, and then watched that same information turn out to be completely true and quite important.
Yes. A plain egg costume does not read as an Egg Boi. The crack, the yellow eyes inside it, and the mouth are the features that make the costume specific to the character. Without them you are wearing an Easter prop with a hat. Use fabric markers and look at the character design before you start drawing.
Extremely well. The Egg Bois are canonically a group of identical minions, so multiple people in the same costume is accurate to the source material. Add one person as Sir Pentious for full effect. Even two or three matching egg costumes reads as an intentional group to anyone who knows the show.
