Halloween Costume Guide
She sang the Neverending Story at the worst possible moment. No regrets.
Suzie Bingham lives in Utah, knows how to break into government systems, and once held the fate of the world hostage until Dustin sang a duet with her. She is Dustin’s girlfriend and a recurring character from Season 3 onward in the Netflix series Stranger Things, played by Gabriella Pizzolo. The costume works in two versions: a simpler blouse-and-sweater build, and a more detailed plaid set look with accessories. Both read as the same character.

The glasses are the first thing people notice, and they have to sit properly. If they are sliding down your nose by the time you walk in, no amount of wig or sweater is going to save the read. Suzie is recognisable by a specific combination: round frames, brown hair, Peter Pan collar. Take one of those out and the character gets harder to pin. Take out the glasses and the costume becomes a generic 80s teenager, which is a fine costume but not this one.
In Season 4, Suzie sits at a desk full of screens and wires and knows exactly what she is doing while everyone around her is slightly overwhelmed. She is the most competent person in her scenes. The character at the party is someone who has already figured out what everyone else is still asking about, and is not particularly excited to explain it for the fourth time.
Match the plaid vest and skirt before you order
Ordering them from different listings without checking the pattern side by side is the most common way this costume falls apart. Screenshot both product images and compare the colour and scale of the plaid before completing either order. A brown plaid vest next to a green plaid skirt is not a set.
The hard hat is more useful than it looks
At a crowded party, a prop you can put on, take off, and hold gives you something to do physically. The hard hat is that prop. It is also the one item in the plaid set look that triggers questions. People who have watched the show will recognise the reference. People who have not will just think it is a fun addition to an 80s costume, which is also fine.
Group Idea: Stranger Things
Strong group for people who watched Season 4 closely. Suzie, her sister Eden, Dustin, and Argyle are all connected through the Utah storyline. The group reads immediately to fans, but the characters other than Dustin are not well-known enough for a general Halloween crowd to place without help. Dustin has no dedicated page on CostumeRealm yet.
Group Idea: Brainy Problem Solvers
Excellent concept across multiple franchises, because each character has a clear visual identity that works without the others in the group. Velma is the most universally recognised. Hermione is a close second. Dipper requires knowledge of Gravity Falls. Suzie sits in the middle, known to Stranger Things fans, less so to everyone else. The group holds together visually because all four read as the same type of character even if people cannot name them.
Group Idea: Same Name
Might work, but only at the kind of party where people find the premise funny before the costumes even register. The connection is entirely the name, and the visual contrast between a Stranger Things tech kid, a Moonrise Kingdom camper, and a Raised by Wolves android is genuinely odd. That oddness is the point. If the group commits to explaining the concept, it lands. If anyone needs it spelled out more than once, it stops being fun.
Four items, and two of them are things you might already own. This is a genuinely low-effort build if you source it right.
Suzie knows she is the smartest person in the room. She does not announce it. She just acts accordingly.
Start with the brown wig and retro round glasses, and those two items carry the recognition. Add a yellow Peter Pan collar blouse under a knitted sweater for the classic Season 4 look, or go with the plaid vest and mini skirt set for the more layered version. The glasses are the one item I would not skip either way.
Stranger Things remains one of the most-recognised franchises on the planet, but Suzie is a supporting character whose recognition depends heavily on who is at the party. At a fan event or with a group, this lands well. At a general Halloween party, expect some people to guess “nerdy 80s kid” before they guess Suzie specifically.
Her most quoted moment is the Neverending Story duet she forced Dustin to sing with her in Season 3, at the worst possible time for the rest of the group. The internet has never let that go. In Season 4 she gets more serious screen time, but most people still lead with the song when they talk about her.
Suzie is played by Gabriella Pizzolo, an American actress and Broadway performer. She joined the cast in Season 3 as Dustin’s girlfriend in Utah and became a recurring presence through Season 4.
The Season 4 casual look, blouse and knitted sweater, is the simpler build. Fewer items, easier to source, and the silhouette is immediately readable. The Plaid Set look has more pieces but also more visual interest, so it depends on how much time you want to spend sourcing.
Yes, and it is one of the better Stranger Things couples concepts because the contrast is clear: the tech-obsessed girl in Utah and the guy who talked about her for an entire season before anyone believed she existed. Dustin has no dedicated page on CostumeRealm yet, so that costume requires building from your own knowledge of the character.
Not necessarily. If your brown hair is medium-length and you can style it simply, skip the wig. Suzie’s hair is not a highly specific shape, so the glasses carry more recognition weight anyway.
Season 4 is set primarily in 1986, about six months after the events of Season 3. Suzie’s scenes take place in Utah, and her look reflects the mid-80s aesthetic of a practical, slightly quirky teenage girl who is very good at computers.
